Specialty Contact Lens Exam

A specialty contact lens exam is a comprehensive assessment specifically tailored for patients with specialty contact lenses. Unlike traditional contact lenses, specialty lenses are designed for patients with unique vision needs or specific eye conditions, offering improved comfort, vision, and eye health.

Do I require specialty contact lenses?

Our specialty contact lens exam is designed to address a wide range of eye conditions and vision issues that may require specialized lenses. These include keratoconus, corneal deformities, and degeneration, which can distort the cornea’s shape, making standard contact lenses ineffective.

Additionally, chronic dry eye sufferers may benefit from specialty lenses designed to retain moisture and improve comfort. Patients with aphakia, anisometropia, or high refractive errors often require customized lenses to achieve optimal vision correction.

Our comprehensive exam screens for these conditions and other parameters not covered by standard contact lenses, ensuring that patients receive tailored solutions for their unique visual needs.

Benefits of contact lenses

Contact lenses provide numerous benefits, including improved peripheral vision, freedom from wearing glasses, and enhanced esthetics. Specialty contact lenses offer additional advantages for patients with irregular corneas, high refractive errors, or other challenging conditions, enabling improved vision and quality of life.

Your contact lens options

We’re proud to offer a wide range of specialty contact lenses tailored to individual needs. These include scleral lenses, rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses, and SynergEyes lenses. Each type is recommended for specific conditions such as keratoconus, corneal degeneration, chronic dry eye, or high refractive errors. For detailed information on each type, please visit our dedicated contact lens types page.

What to expect during your contact lens fitting

The fitting process involves selecting the most appropriate lens type, size, and power for each patient. Trial lenses are evaluated during follow-up visits to ensure optimal vision and comfort. The initial fit can take anywhere from 30-60 minutes with likely additional follow-up visits. The specialty exam price covers all visits.

Our tools and technologies

During a specialty contact lens exam, our team utilizes state-of-the-art technology to assess the eye’s shape, size, and overall health. Measurements are taken using tools such as the Keratograph and anterior segment OCT imaging to ensure a precise fit. These tools provide detailed 3D images and measurements of the eye, assisting in achieving an individualized fit and enhancing the overall success of specialty contact lenses.

Book your appointment

If you’re experiencing vision challenges or have been told you’re not a candidate for traditional contact lenses, a specialty contact lens exam may be the solution. We encourage you to schedule your exam today and discover the benefits of specialty contact lenses tailored to your unique needs.
